Simon Yam, the face of Canon EOS for the past 15 years, made his way to Kuala Lumpur today to unveil the brand new Canon EOS 500D to the media. Today's proceedings also acted as a double celebration of sorts, as it was the first SLR launch in Canon's 50th year of being in the SLR market.
The Canon EOS 500D is targeted at the high-end consumer market and comes with all the specifications that you'd expect from a camera of it's class. Apart from being able to shoot images at a whopping 15.1-megapixels, the 500D also comes with HD video recording capabilities, and Canon's proprietary DIGIC 4 imaging processor. It also gets a boost for low-light shooting since the ISO range has been boosted all the way to 12800.
Acting as the intermediary bridge in the gap between entry level DSLR's and pro level DSLR's, the 500D also comes with features such as a 9-point autofocus, spot metering, full HD video shooting capabilities (1920 x 1080 at 20 fps) and HDMI output.
